Hours after Joe Ingles offered to pay for a rental car so that his Golden State Warriors opponents could drive to Las Vegas for its nightlife, Ingles has offered to take his rivals out for a night in his hometown of Adelaide, Australia.
Reacting to comments made by Warriors forwards Matt Barnes and Andre Iguodala in which they said that they would prefer to play the Los Angeles Clippers in the playoffs rather than Ingles’ Utah Jazz because of its superior nightlife, Ingles was initially defensive of his adopted home.
“I love Utah,” said Ingles.
“I think it’s a great place. It’s good to focus on our job, basketball, and what we do. And if they want to go to L.A., they can still go to L.A. between games if they want.
“Or they can drive to Vegas, too, if they really want. I’ll hire the car for them.”
Later that same day, however, Ingles decided to improve on his offer.
“I’ve been thinking about it, and if they really want to see a good time, I’ll take them back to my hometown. They can stay in my parents’ house.
“We’ll have to catch the bus in to town but that’s easy. You just catch the 733 from Regency Road and transfer to the 722 at the top of Chandlers Hill Road. That’ll drop you off at King William and from there we can go anywhere in Adelaide! Well, Rundle Street or Hindley Street.”
When asked what sort of places he would take his Californian foes, Ingles was not short of suggestions.
“Well, the Woolshed is a must. They’ve got a mechanical bull and four different dance floors. Maybe Enigma Bar if they like metal. Even if they don’t like metal to start with, they will when they’ve sunk a few West Ends. If they come at Christmas we can even check out the lights at the West End brewery.
“It’s a real shame that HQ has closed. That nightclub was heaps good.”
When asked for comment, Golden State Warriors star player Steph Curry was skeptical.
“I don’t know, man. It sounds like a pretty disappointing night. Can we stop at Café de Vilis on the way home? You can’t get pies like that in Oakland.”
Ingles has a solution.
“Forget that. I’m gonna give him a pie floater. He’ll fuckin’ go off, mate.”
Utah are set to meet Golden State in the Conference Semifinals after defeating the Clippers 4-3. Tip-off for Game 1 is set for midday tomorrow Adelaide time.
